In 2011 GAM joined the Whitechapel Gallery in east London as Corporate Patron. This support ensures that the Gallery remains a valuable and well-used resource for London residents, presenting cultural and educational opportunities for a broad audience, including local children and families, young people, artists, students and City workers.
Whitechapel Gallery is a touchstone for contemporary art internationally. For over a century it has premiered world-class artists from modern masters such as Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko and Frida Kahlo to contemporaries such as Sophie Calle, Lucien Freud, Gilbert & George and Mark Wallinger.
Located in the world’s most vibrant contemporary art quarter, the gallery plays a central role in London’s cultural landscape.
With beautiful galleries, exhibitions, artist commissions, collection displays, historic archives, education resources, inspiring art courses, dining room and bookshop, the newly expanded Gallery is open all year round, so there is always something free to see.
In 2011 Whitechapel Gallery will present the first major UK exhibition of celebrated German photographer Thomas Struth, the first public gallery display of works from Government Art Collection, and The London Art Book Fair - the largest art book fair in the country.
