Juan Landazabal - Global Head of Specialist Active Investments
Juan Landazabal joined GAM Investments in September 2018 and is Global Head of Specialist Active Investments. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing GAM’s Specialist Active Investments business and leading the functions supporting the Investment Management and Wealth Management businesses, including Trading, Research, Fund Treasury and Front Office Risk & Controls. He is also responsible for delegated investment management activities and leads the onboarding and integration of strategic partnerships onto the GAM platform.
Since joining GAM, Juan has led a number of key strategic initiatives, including the consolidation of multiple order management systems into SimCorp, the migration of the Wealth Management platform, and the development of the firm’s investment management oversight framework. He has built and continues to manage a centralised trading function and established a Fund Treasury team responsible for share class hedging, fund trading, and cash and FX management solutions. He works closely with internal stakeholders, ManCos and regulators to ensure effective governance, risk oversight and alignment with GAM’s broader strategy.
Juan has over 30 years of experience in capital markets across both the buy-side and sell-side. Prior to joining GAM, he was Global Head of Fixed Income & FX Trading at DWS Group (formerly Deutsche Asset Management). He previously spent almost 10 years at Fidelity Investments as Head of Fixed Income Trading. Earlier in his career, he held structuring, trading and financial analyst roles at Bankia, Banco Santander and BBVA, working across Madrid, New York and London.
Juan holds an MSc in International Banking & Financial Studies from Heriot-Watt University and a BA in Economics from Kingston University. He has previously served as Co-Chair of the UK’s Investment Association’s Fixed Income Traders Committee and was a member of the ECB Bond Market Contact Group and FX Contact Group during his tenure at DWS. He is based in London.
